Know Thy Self
Journey with the Greek Goddesses
Week 2: Persiphone
Somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
Any experience, your eyes have their silence:
On your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
Or which i cannot touch because they are too near
Your slightest look easily will unclose me
Though i have closed myself as fingers,
You open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
Touching skillfully, mysteriously her first rose …
Nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
The power of your intense fragility…
– Gedicht van E.E. Cummings

Meet Persiphone
In Greek mythology, Persiphone is one of the most underexposed goddesses. She is the queen of the underworld, the inner world, the subconscious and perhaps for that reason misunderstood. She represents the process of dying, farewell and grief, but also rebirth and the seeds of transformation.
